Before I get into the grove of studying for a huge anatomy test tomorrow I wanted to get some pics up from the stand construction as well as the pics of my existing tank and livestock.

To avoid killing the friends lists of thoes w/ dialup I'll just post the link to my gallery on Lupinia

When I got home from class last night I glued the uprights into position and left the unit to dry overnight. When I pulled it down today I found that it looked out of square. It still sat flat and level but it just dident look right. When I laid it out on my work table I found it was indeed not square. Since it was just glued together I smacked it apart and cleaned up all the joints to try again. "No biggie" I though, it was probally out of square because I assembled it in an upright position.

After fiddling with it for half an hour and finding it still wanted to be skewed I pulled all four uprights and compared them; one was 1/4" short. I have no clue how that happened, I went to excessive measuers with my measuring to ensure they would all be perfect. Either way I clamed the uprights together and then clamed them to my push fence on my saw and ran all 4 though at the same time to ensure they were all exactly the same legenth. I think I will be using this method in the future when I need mutiple pieces the excate same legenth.

After the cuts I set it all back up on the table and tried one more time. This time everything went into position perfectly and is now sitting in glueup for the evening. Hopefuly I'll get home while it is still warmish tomorrow and have a little time to play with it. If not I'll wait till thur to begin cutting the plywood and doing the hardwood inserts for it. Perhaps I'll start with the top because it is the easiest and would be the last piece to be permantly attached to the finished cabinet.

Either way I'm excited, and really remembering why I enjoy wood work.

On another little note I talked to my mom today abnout what my dad should get me for x-mas.. hehe. We found a really nice Freud router table that has collapable legs; it will be perfect for my rahter large lack of space.

Lastly.. if someone out there is wondering what to get me, I would really love a high quality tape measure. I've burned through 4 cheapos in the last months. I dont need anything fancy or with any gadgets going on, just good solid construction and a high degree of accuracy.

peace yo!
