Well, I've been a bit slow getitng work done on the stand. Two nights ago I managed to get the rest fo the front finished up and attached to the frame. It all fits beautifuly and most of my joints you'd be hard pressed to even consider a piece of paper would fit between(before glueup of course).

All I have remaining is to joint the oak plywood sides and put them in glue up. Once they are on I can route the front of the cabinet and assemble the top before adding the final trim accents.

The doors will be comming later as I dont have 200 bux laying around to pickup the very special bits necessary to make my own doors (that will look good of course).

Along the lines of woodworking, I splurged last night and ordered a mitering machine. I should not really be spending the money, but I find them invaluable for dooing things like crib rail assembly. My folks let me have one of my gifts early.. a Freud portable router table with Freuds very nice fence system. WHEEEEE! I'll most likley be getitng a few other nice woodworkie type gifts this year so I think I can now comfortably say I'm readdy to try my hand at cribs.

Thats right Cribs, yo. Having been wanting to throw my hat in for over 2 years now I'm finally in a position that I feel I have the time, materials, money, and equipment to begin such a ventur. I have also devised a simple and elagent method of dealing with the sliding rail, an issue that has haunted me as well as other builders for years.

Looking at local wood prices I would most likley offer a poplar unit first for somewhere around 600, and thats still 300 under the closest competor. After that I would take orders as they come and we could negoiate what materials or finish. Personaly I'm considering making my own from Walnut and currly Maple. (yes, read as EXPENSIVE!). Bt thats a ways down the road really.

So, does anyone have any thoughts? does anyone read the wood related stuff?

If I offered a high quality unit for around 600 and you were in the market for such an item would you be intrested?
